My name is Katie Koppelmann. I was born in Asheville, NC, and currently live in Charlotte, NC. I met my husband, Roy, in 2012. We were married in 2014 and welcomed our first child in 2016, followed by our second in 2018. We completed our family in 2020 with the birth of our third. Roy died by suicide on February 22, 2024, leaving me widowed at 43 and alone to raise our three children who were 7, 5, and 3.
For the first year and a half, I felt overwhelmed and alone, but somehow, through the fog, I started to find my people and make connections that became instrumental for my healing journey. I still grieve and will always feel the weight of our loss, but somewhere along the way I decided I wanted to do something with my grief, to help others find their way through the darkness of loss. I wanted to build a space to offer guidance and connection for others as they navigate the loss of a spouse, to create a space for others to quickly find what has taken me time to piece together.
In late 2025, I founded Solas Together, with a goal of building a community of support to help others move through loss, not past it, finding light along the way.
Solas Together was created to bring connection and understanding to those navigating the loss of a partner. After losing my husband unexpectedly in early 2024, I found myself feeling lost and alone, even as I was surrounded by family and friends.
